I was actually able to take a break from reading and filming to sit down and paint over the Christmas break! Sigh. It was great. But now it is back to the academic grind and I really couldn't be happier. Bye personal time!

Happy Birthday Mary Blair

Today Google honored one of my greatest inspirations and one of Disney's most treasured artists: Mary Blair. Happy 100th!

I've been super busy (yet super elated) with school. Stressful at times, but it is still a "good" stress. I'll have some videos posted soon of the work I've been doing. Last week I used a Bolex camera to document Occupy Olympia at Sylvester Park on 16mm black and white film. It was such a wonderful process with a rather successful result. I can't wait to experiment more with the film medium.

I sure would like to post some new artwork but guess what? I HAVE NONE! Instead I'm spending my days writing; writing about making art. I guess I can't complain since it has been pretty fun. Once I have a good draft going on one of the 5 pieces I'm working on I'll post it. Writing is an art too!

I've got to admit, its pretty lonely out in Shelton without knowing anybody but my parents. I suppose socializing isn't what I came here for though, right? I'm just so used to knowing everyone wherever I go and having friends around me all the time. Its a bit of a culture shock. On a positive note, I'm getting some work done. Lots of reading for my class. Today was spent with Boards of Canada and a book of fictional short stories.

Here's the comics I've been working on the last two weeks:

I've got a show at The Sunset in a week or so. I'm not prepared what-so-ever. Looks like I'll be recycling work, yet again!
I still have my work on the walls of Piece of Mind. I heard I've even sold a few pieces. Woo!

But as expected, life remains crazy, even in the quiet, lonely woods of Shelton!

Putting My Best Foot Forward

...because that other foot is lame. I quit drinking. I'm taking my vitamins. I'm going back to school. I feel like a million dollars! I'm going to be moving out of beloved Ballard and taking myself to Lake Spencer so I can attend school in Olympia at The Evergreen State College at the beginning of the new year. 2011 is going to be a good, healthy year! Yay!

A magical Seattle Weekly news box was so so lonely and needed love, so it spread its newspaper wings and flew to A.Bot's abode begging for some affection. That's exactly what we gave it. Now it feels much more comfortable and is living at home again on the street for everyone to enjoy! <3 <3 <3

Missions with Narboo, Starhead Boy, Henry and Xavier are the best!

This event has been life altering! Got myself in with a wicked talented art crew, fell in love, and got a new summer job working with kids at the Ballard Community Center! Its only the beginning of a radtastic summer. Be on the look out for some kick ass murals in Seattle soon. I'm going to be working with Andrew Miller, Henry, Narboo, Starheadboy and Xavier Lopez on some really neat sites. Our first site is happening this week behind the PullAppart Bike Shop on fourth and Bell. Its a huge empty wall. I can't wait to see what it turns into! Ballard Community Center and the Ballard Bridge (AWESOME) are a couple of other sites we'll be working on. I can't stand how happy I am lately! Its ridiculous!

Guerrilla Arts Extravoganza!

Holy cow its been a long time since I posted anything. I kind of forgot about this site and how neat it is. My camera is broken and so is my scanner. :( Makes it difficult to share my current projects.

But, there's an awesome way for everyone to see my stuff and what is better than seeing it with your own eyes? I don't know!

I'm really excited to share that I've been asked to show at the Guerrilla Art show (also known as Art Farm) this Saturday. Me and 9 other artists are going to have our stuff hanging at a wonderful old 1920's farm house in West Seattle. There will be live music, live DJ and lots of live painting!

Here's the details:
Saturday, May 22nd 3pm-12am
4770 54th Ave SW (left off Beach Dr. on Edmunds)
$5 keg donation or you can bring your own drink of choice

So things have gone extremely well at Other Coast as far as sales. I've sold 11 pieces that I know of (I've been out of town for a week visiting the folks).
But today I had to create a flyer for my friend's band: The Resets and here's the results:

So far 2009 has proven to be pretty busy and extremely fun. The results? Not a whole lot of art production. *tear* But here's a few of my new pieces that I've been trying to finish before my art show at Other Coast starting next week. (That means you should go to the Ballard O.C.C., get a sandwich and buy some art. Yeah?)

I wanted to make art that questioned our relationship with animals and the ethics and sustainability of factory farming, but it ended up as chicken nuggets singing. I took all the money I made exploiting an animal in my last show and used it to fund a new show about the exploitation of animals. If its art and you can see it from the street, I guess it could still be considered street art."

Yeah, so I haven't posted in a while.
Started a new job, my brother's getting married, all kinds of family coming into town... I've been a little busy. But not too busy to "Do Work".
Here's the latest:

This is a board I painted for my friend Carson. We both like being offensive as well as dead baby jokes and this is my favorite...
Why do you put a baby in the blender feet first?

I also started painting on an old cabinet that I had laying around. I found its rather tricky to paint on glass. Simply because you have to do it all in reverse, but its been fun none the less. I'm not finished. I plan to place personal ads from the stranger behind the glass. Not sure though. We'll see.

Last but not least, this is what I've engorged myself with in the past two days. It will take a while, I'm starting to realize that pretty quickly, since its on a 4'x 8' canvas that my friend Tim gave to me. Its actually come quite a ways since I took the photos this morning, but I've got to say, it looks a lot better now with about 8 more hours of work put into it. Its really tedious but addicting at the same time. The concept actually came from a very strange drawing that my friend Thea and I did together. Another happy accident. I love those!

So yeah, that's it. Once I've finished the last two pieces I will post the final results. Till then...

On a not-so-upbeat note, Chicago street artist, Brandon Scanlon A.K.A. SOLVE was brutally murdered last Saturday night. I will miss seeing his brilliance grace the Wooster Collective and my sincerest sympathies go out to his friends, family and streets of Chicago.

I've been listening to these guys for the past 2 days non-stop. I even had to take a break from the new Alkaline Trio album. (I know, right!?) My friend, Aaron, told me about them. He was right when saying (in more or less words) they sound like Old Crow and Drag the River had a threesome with a Mariachi band resolving in an unplanned baby. That description alone sent me running to the record store. I quite enjoyed this video so I thought I just might share. It'd be a darn shame to keep this awesome talent all to myself so watch and enjoy.
